Inspiration: Mad Potter of Biloxi- George Ohr

George Ohr was one of those amazing artists far beyond his time- and he knew it.
Approaching his shop in the late 1800's, you'd find a sign out front that said, "Get a Biloxi Souvenir, Before the Potter Dies, or Gets a Reputation".
Another sign read
“ ‘GREATEST’ ARTPOTTERON EARTH, ‘YOU’ PROVE THE CONTRARY.”
At a time when Victorian art was all the rage, and clean, pretty lines were what people were looking for, he created pots that looked as though they had crumpled on the wheel, or melted in the kiln. His glazes to this day are some of the most beautiful.

The famous "puzzle mugs"...if you try to drink out of them the normal way, you're going to spill your coffee all over you.

Inspiration: Jonathan Adler

Many of you may know of Jonathan Adler as an interior designer/ decor retailer. However, what you may not know is that Jonathan started his career as a potter!

Check out http://www.jonathanadler.com/about.php for some fun facts about how he got started!

That is a HUGE piece of clay he is wedging... I am getting Carpal Tunnel Syndrome just thinking about it.

I just LOVE these pieces from the "Utopia" collection.  Face jugs are quite popular with potters here in the South, and these are much cuter than some of 'em out here! :D
LOVE this Ceramic To-Go cup created for Starbucks...

And I kinda think I need these for my bathroom y'all...

And, last but not least...
What every stay at home mom needs (including me!)

If anyone epitomizes the phrase "Fun, Functional Pottery," I'd say it's Jonathan Adler!  After all, art should be fun... it should make you smile... it shouldn't be so serious!

And check out the Jonathan Adler Manifesto... this makes me smile just reading it!
